MKW Invests in New Equipment

A series of defence contracts has led a North engineering group to invest more than pounds 700,000 in new equipment.

MKW Group, which employs around 160 people at its Ryton headquarters, has spent pounds 550,000 on the precision manufacturing machine, plus another pounds 150,000 on training and tooling.

The investment comes after the company secured a number of defence contracts in the fields of military communications and satellite components.

Rahmon Nassor, sales and commercial director of the MKW Engineering Group, said: "MKW now supplies equipment to eight defence companies within the UK and Europe and see this as an expanding area for the future, much of this coming through association with NDI and attendance at exhibitions with them, such as Farnborough.

"The defence accounts and offshore accounts is now a major part of our business and will continue for some time in the future."

MKW has evolved over 28 years from a small local business to become a leader in the region's engineering industry, with blue chip clients in the defence, medical, sub-sea and other sectors.

Annual sales now reach pounds 6m.

Mr Nassor said: "MKW Engineering are not only involved in component manufacture for these industries but are also heavily involved at the design stage, manufacture, assembly and testing. …
