Blue are calling it a day ( for now. Showbusiness Reporter Gordon Barr gets the low-down from Antony Costa, and has some Blue goodies to give away

Often when bands release a greatest hits album, it's a sign that their time together is coming to an end.

Usually they deny this, but not so with the boys from Blue.

Their Best Of is out this week, and the lads have made no secret of the fact it is the end of an era for them, albeit on a temporary basis.

Antony, Duncan, Simon and Lee are calling it a day for the time being, with their latest smash, Curtain Falls, being an apt title.

But fans can take heart that they'll be re-grouping next spring for a nationwide tour, which takes them to Newcastle on April 1.

Whether they will then go their separate ways again remains unclear.

"It's just one of those things," says Antony. "The lads were looking to call it a day for a year or so, to do other things that we want to do, different projects. I've got an agent for that now, and so I'm keeping my options open.

"I'd definitely love to do some telly, maybe a comedy drama thing, prove to people that I can do it. People need to have confidence in me. And I need to do it to prove it to myself.

"But we are getting back for the tour, and we'll see what happens with that.

"We wanted to close this chapter and releasing the Best Of seemed the perfect way to do it. Saying goodbye to something, and looking forward to something new."

Blue hit the top five with their debut release All Rise, in 2001.Since then they have has a succession of hits and chart-toppers, including Too Close, Fly By, Guilty, Breathe Easy and If You Come Back.

The lads are no strangers to Newcastle, having performed here several times. And just a few weeks ago, Antony was on Tyneside for Sky One's reality TV show The Match.
