Strauss Is Determined to Ignore the Politics

Andrew Strauss is hoping England's young one-day squad can ignore the politics surrounding their tour to Zimbabwe later this week and take some unlikely positives from the controversial five-match series.

England fly into Harare tomorrow for a one-day series which has taken second billing to the protests and condemnation at their decision to go ahead with their most politically-sensitive tour in decades.

Middlesex left-hander Strauss, man-of-the-match in England's opening warm-up victory over Namibia on Sunday, believes they may yet gain something useful from the tour if they can continue their development as a squad.

"We are going to keep our heads down as much as possible when we're there," revealed Strauss, conscious of the political tensions in Zimbabwe under the regime of President Robert Mugabe.

"It is a case of fulfilling our obligations, playing five games, travelling from venue to venue and hopefully improving as a side while we are there so we do get some positives out of the tour. …
