Mick McCarthy has called a halt to his squad rebuilding following the arrival of Stockport winger Andy Welsh this week.

McCarthy claims he has no plans to bring in any more players in the near future after the 21-year-old became the 10th player to join the Black Cats since the end of last season.

Welsh joined fellow new recruits Carl Robinson, Steve Caldwell, Liam Lawrence, Dean Whitehead, Neill Collins, Stephen Elliott, Mark Lynch, Danny Collins and Michael Bridges, giving McCarthy a squad of 24 senior players from which to pick.

Several players have been linked with a move to Sunderland over the last week, including Blackburn striker Paul Gallagher.

However, McCarthy insists he is not in a position to carry on bringing in more players.

He said: "I have been linked with a number of players and some have come out publicly and said they are not interested in a move here.

"However, the truth is I had no interest in them anyway. …
