Hirvine Worth Sticking With

Though Hirvine looks every inch a chaser, he hasn't taken to fences like a duck to water in his two attempts so far. He lacked fluency and took a long look at some fences when a close third to Jumieges at Market Rasen last time.

It's hoped his jumping will improve with experience and he is worth persevering with in the Tendrleen Range Beginners' Chase at Hereford today.

A modest maiden on the Flat, he was unbeaten in four completed starts over hurdles last season, winning at Hexham and Sedgefield before being sold out of Thomas Tate's stable for 14,000 guineas at the Doncaster October Sales. Now with Peter Bowen, he added handicap successes at Folkestone and Kempton before switching his attention to the bigger obstacles. Open to further improvement given a sufficient test of stamina he can open his chasing account here.

The Market Man enjoyed a successful hurdling debut for Nicky Henderson at Kempton. He stuck to his task and kept on to beat Mcbain. …
