In the coming days, you'll be reminded that the Evil Genius won 122 games in 12 years, six SEC titles, a national championship and much, much more.

But here are some Steve Spurrier's records at Florida that you might not run across elsewhere: 5-8-1, 0-1 and 6-5.

The first was Spurrier's record against archrival Florida State, the second his mark against Miami and the third his record in bowl games.

Most of Steve Superior's losses in the series weren't that close: 45-30, 45-24, 33-21, 23-12 and 30-7.

His loss to Miami, 37-27 in the 2000 season's Sugar Bowl, had a reasonably close score -- but the Gators were clearly outclassed.

And -- this just in -- South Carolina is not Florida. The number that may be toughest for Spurrier to overcome is the difference between the number of top recruits in the Palmetto State and the Sunshine State. At UF, in a program with lots of in-state talent and national TV exposure, his distaste for recruiting wasn't as much of a factor.

For most of his tenure at UF, Spurrier had only one real challenger in the SEC East: Tennessee. Georgia, now a national power again, was losing almost a third of its games and South Carolina was seldom a threat. Vandy and Kentucky were, and are, two easy annual wins.

Spurrier's 1989 co-ACC championship at Duke was very impressive, though his league competition at the time wasn't.

Gators fans, chill. Spurrier doesn't stink, but there are legitimate questions about whether he'll be able to turn the Gamecocks into a pitchin' and catchin' machine like he had at Florida.

Florida-Florida State, Auburn-Alabama, South Carolina-Clemson, Oregon-Oregon State . . . all these great football rivalries are scheduled to be televised on stations carried by the Jacksonville Comcast cable system. What? There's a slightly big game I'm leaving out? No, sorry, but the Ohio State-Michigan game isn't on. …
