Immigration officials swooped on a popular North Yorkshire restaurant in a major operation following allegations about illegal employees.

One worker, a Chinese national, is believed to have been deported back to his home country after officers pounced on the Panda Chinese restaurant in Stokesley, pictured above. Another two workers held following the raid were still being interviewed by experts today in an effort to discover their immigration status.

A Home Office spokesman said officers soon expected to discover whether the two staff members were working in the country against immigration laws.

Officials carried out their operation on November 24 after concerns were raised that staff members were working illegally at the well-known restaurant.

A number of workers were taken to be interviewed, but only one man has so far been found to be in the country without permission from the Home Office's Immigration and Nationality Directorate. …
