Steven Gerrard wants Liverpool's red army to roar the club into the final 16 of the Champions League ( but also to be patient in the critical clash with Olympiacos at Anfield tonight.

The Liverpool skipper, who tried hard not to become involved in discussions about his future should the Merseysiders fail to qualify from Group A, sees the fans as a force to "strike fear" into the Greeks.

A 1-0 win or two-goal advantage will see Liverpool qualify and immediately quell the rumour and speculation about Gerrard's future.

But for now he said: "I'm not sure it will be `attack, attack, attack'.

"We do need to score goals but we do not need to win it in the first 20 minutes. We must be patient and hopefully we have the right ammunition. We are very confident.

"It will be a full house and the fans will help push a few goals in for us.

"They did that a couple of years ago when we needed a similar result against Roma.

"They played a big part in that result and the noise and atmosphere they can create will hopefully strike fear into the Greeks and you can expect a good Liverpool performance. …
