Jobs Lost at Irish Cigarette Factory

Imperial Tobacco is closing a cigarette factory in the Irish Republic with the loss of 90 jobs.

Imperial said it was shutting the plant in Dublin and transferring production to its site in Nottingham.

The group said the move would be complete by February next year.

It said the closure was not related to the ban on smoking in public places introduced in Ireland earlier this year.

Failing to shine

CELEBRITY jeweller Theo Fennell yesterday became the latest retailer to warn of challenging market conditions in the run-up to Christmas.

The group, which has 12 UK outlets and boasts England captain David Beckham and Sir Elton John among its customers, said half-year losses widened to pounds 250,000 from a deficit of pounds 152,000 due to the impact of a one-off sale.
