When Women Meet

Article excerpt

Rowlands Gill WI: A special general meeting had been called to vote on a proposal to cancel the meeting in January and convene one in August instead. However, after some discussion and a show of hands, the vote went against the proposal.

Announcements regarding future outings were given, including the County Carol Service at Winlaton, a Christmas evening meal at the Manor House, Carterway Heads and details regarding the resolutions meeting and the welly plodge in January.

The meeting then welcomed the full complement of the Derwentside Singers for a much-enjoyed programme. Raffle prizes were won by Mrs Robson and Mrs Hardy. Mrs Jean Peacock offered a "Night of Flowers" for the January meeting, when the competition will be a favourite Christmas card.

Heddon on the Wall WI: The December meeting of the Heddon WI was our Christmas Party. This was attended by 36 members and seven guests. We started with a supper of cold meats and salads of every type which would have made Delia Smith proud. This was followed by sweets which could only be described as wonderful. After the support we were entertained by The Sunnisiders, a marvellous barbershop quartet. After they had given their performance we all sang carols, which put everyone in the mood for Christmas. There was also lots of raffle prizes provided by the committee which added to the fun of the evening. Our next meeting is January 10, which is our members' night. Entertainment will be going out for our winter meal at The Swan, Heddon. Once again we would like to invite ladies to join us on the first Monday of every month.

Belle Vue Low Fell (E) TG: We enjoyed our Christmas party on Friday, December 3. After a delicious buffet of homemade savouries and cakes, we were very entertained by the Swarland Singers. Their choice of songs from the shows and Christmas music set the seal on a very happy time.

Cullercoats WI: Members of Cullercoats WI, with invited guests, recently celebrated their 10th birthday anniversary with a splendid collective buffet and entertainment by the all-girls Barber-Shop Four. Mr R Armstrong played a variety of pieces on the piano.

We are changing our venue; from January 2005 our meetings will be in St George's Church Hall, Beverley Gardens, Cullercoats. …
