Swede Is Desperate for Spurs Transfer

Article excerpt

SWEDEN winger Christian Wilhelmsson has issued a "come-andgetme" plea to Tottenham.

The 25-year-old, who is valued at around [pounds sterling]2.5million, is attracting interest from a host of European clubs, but claims Spurs are his preferred choice.

A key member of Sweden's Euro 2004 team, Wilhelmsson is desperate to quit Belgian side Anderlecht following an embarrassing Champions League campaign in which they failed to get a single point.

Wilhelmsson, who wants to escape Brussels during next month's transfer window, said: "Tottenham suits me perfectly. I feel ready for the big move. I have got international experience with the national team, in the European Championship and the Champions League. It is a big thing to join Tottenham, it is a superb club in a terrific city.

"It's better to come to a club in the summer and take part in the preseason.

The player's agent has confirmed that Spurs are one of a "number of big clubs" he has spoken to about Wilhelmsson. Another is understood to be Celtic.

Spurs' sporting director Frank Arnesen is actively looking to recruit wide players in January and Wilhelmsson appears to be one of several options.

However, although his skills are understood to be admired by the White Hart Lane hierarchy, no deal is imminent. Spurs fans should also be wary of Wilhelmsson's public pronoucements. Only last month, he said: "Celtic seems to be a fantastic club to play for, with a terrific atmosphere. I would not mind playing in Italy or Spain either."

Arnesen has secured the services of another continental midfielder.

Czech Under-21 international David Limbersky is set to sign for the club on a six-month loan arrangement with an option to make the switch permanent.

The 21-year-old, who plays for Czech Republic side Viktoria Plzen, is due to join Spurs on 28 December - the same day as they entertain Crystal Palace.

Limbersky played four games for Italian side Modena last season and was due to join Udinese in the summer, but the transfer broke down because of work permit problems. …
