Article excerpt

Virginia officials said a grand jury could be asked next week to determine whether a man in Duval County's jail under an assumed name had a role in the death of a Virginia woman and her unborn child.

Federal authorities found Darius T. Hicks, 31, on Thursday in the Duval County jail. He had been arrested Dec. 6 in Jacksonville on charges of driving a stolen Maryland vehicle. Federal officials said he had been using his brother's name and did not not have an identification card when he was charged.

U.S. deputy marshals found him by leafing through mug shots of inmates. They suspected he might be in Jacksonville because he had an acquaintance in the area.

Hicks was named a person of interest in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Shawndre N. Fulton in Fairfax, Va. Fulton, 21, who was eight months' pregnant, was found Thanksgiving.
