Crash Woman Fights for Life after Accident

A pensioner is fighting for her life after she was hit by a car while crossing a street.

The woman, in her late 60s, was crossing Fenham Hall Drive at the junction with Convent Lane in the West End of Newcastle at 6.35pm yesterday when she was hit.

The woman from Byker, who is not being named by police, was hit by a grey Proton saloon car.

The smash caused serious injuries which left her in a critical condition.

She was taken to Newcastle General Hospital where she remains today.

Police said no arrests have been made following the crash.

Crash investigators closed the road for around 90 minutes while they examined the scene.

A police spokesman said: "A lady in her late 60s was crossing Fenham Hall Drive from the south side to the north side when she struck by a grey Proton saloon car.

"The lady, who is from Byker, is currently detained in Newcastle General Hospital, where her injuries are being described as life-threatening. …
