Indoor and outdoor clubs in the region have been given an opportunity to find out first hand about radical new proposals for the future of British bowls

Plans have been drawn up for the unification of the four main flat green associations in England.

And key members of the English Indoor Bowling Association will outline their reasons for supporting the move.

What is clearly a very important meeting takes place at Ryedale IBC on Saturday, January 29 at 2.30pm.

The three main speakers will be EBA chief executive Tony Allcock MBE, EBA treasurer Bob Jack and David Mitchell Gears, chairman of the EBA executive.

Mitchell Gears is also Chairman of the Unification Steering Group, the body who, in conjunction with the Sports Council, have drawn up the proposals for unification.

It is vital that as many bowlers as possible are made fully aware of the far-reaching proposals being put forward.

If implemented, they will have a huge effect on the way that the game is governed in this country.

If and when theses changes are put into place, it is doubtful if they could ever be reversed.

There are a great number of issues to be covered but one of the main worries of many grass roots bowlers is the eventual cost of the process.

Ball-park figures have been quoted but as yet the steering committee have not produced a financial plan.

At the top of the proposed structure would be an executive board of ten members plus a chief executive, chairman and a vice-chairman.

There would be a further six committees dealing with international performance, finance, policy and management, development, competitions and lastly member services.

There would then be a main council consisting of 30 members based on proportional representation plus Four National presidents from each of the four codes. …
