Raymond van Barneveld has called for another clash of world champions with Phil Taylor - and would like it to become an annual event.

The Dutchman confirmed himself the No 1 player in the British Darts Organisation when he won their Lakeside World Championship for the fourth time with a 6-2 victory against England captain Martin Adams.

Now the 37-year-old would like a repeat of his 1999 clash at Wembley Arena with Taylor, which he lost, after the latest head-to-head involving the Professional Darts Corporation's top star ended in farce when Andy Fordham had to retire due to heat exhaustion.

"I spoke to Phil Taylor only last week," said van Barneveld, who is now only one short of Eric Bristow's record of five BDO world titles.

"He is a good friend of mine, although we don't see each other very often because we play for rival governing bodies.

"I have a lot of respect for him, he is a fantastic player and it would be good for darts if we could take each other on. …
