There have been reasonable numbers of whiting and cod all along the North East coast, in spite of the weather conditions.

Cresswell and Lynemouth beaches have both given cod to 2lb and Cambois Rocks has also produced a few fish.

Blyth Pier and beach have both had whiting on rag and mackerel strip with cod on worm baits.

The River Tyne still has good numbers of whiting and cod and I'm told there are a lot of those dreadful hagfish in the river.

Brian Ferry, son of England international angler Pauline, lost a cod estimated at over 15lb from Smiths Dock as he tried to lift it out of the water.

The bait was black lug and rag and, from the same mark, there were also two fish of 7lb each.

Roker Pier produced a cod of 9lb 12oz for Davy Redford and Dale Crute took a whiting of almost 3lb on lug and rag cocktail. …
