At Borderway Mart, Carlisle, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly primestock sale. An increased number of 98 prime cattle were presented to a larger ringside of buyers with trade again being much improved. Messrs Hetherington of Old Hall Farm sold four good bullocks to top at 119.5p for a Limousin cross bullock purchased by Mr Jim Woodhead. Mr Walker of Elm Tree sold two Limousin cross heifers for 119.5p & 116.5p purchased by Mr Charles Kirkpatrick and Mr Jim Woodhead. Lowther Park Farms sold 10 outstanding heifers to average 113.8p which topped at 118.5p & 117.5p (x2) purchased by Jim Woodhead (x2) and Mr Mike Atkinson. Messrs Maw of Wintershields sold the top priced Belgian Blue cross heifers for 116.5p (x2) purchased by Northern Counties and Mr Mike Atkinson.

Mr Geoff Batey of High Knells Farm run of bullocks topped at 115.5p (x2) purchased by Charles Kirkpatrick and Mr Jim Woodhead. Messrs Hetherington run of bullocks averaged pounds 810.65.

Leading bullock prices per kilo: Limousin, 119.5p Old Hall Farm, 115.5p (x2) High Knells Farm. Belgian Blue, 113.5p Old Hall Farm. Leading heifer prices per kilo: 119.5p, 116.5p Elm Tree, 118.5p, 117.5p (x2), 115.5p, 114.5p, 112.5p & 111.5p Lowther Park Farms. Belgian Blue, 116.5p (x2) & 109.5p Wintershields. Blonde d' Aquitaine, 115.5p Lowther Park Farms. Prime bulls met a great demand with Messrs Edgar of Fellside sold the top priced Limousin for 123.5p purchased by Mr Charles Kirkpatrick.

Messrs Thompson of Townfoot sold two Limousin bulls both for 119.5p purchased by Seddon & Co and Mr Keith Tallentire. Messrs Watson of Cunningarth run of bulls topped at 119.5p p urchased by Seddon & Co. Messrs Hunter of Upper Brydekirk Limousin bulls topped at 118.5p purchased by Bowland Foods. Mr Walker sold a Limousin bull for 840kg 109.5p pounds 919.80 purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson.

Leading bull prices per kilo: Limousin, 123.5p, 113.5p Fellside, 119.5p (x2) Townfoot, 119.5p & 112.5p Cunningarth, 118.5p Upper Brydekirk, 112.5p Sarkshields. Belgian Blue, 113.5p Justicetown, 112.5p, 111.5p (x2) Welton Farm. Simmental, 112.5p Abbey Farm. Holstein, 103.5p (x2), 102.5p (x2) Abbey Farm, 101.5p Justicetown.

2,726 prime sheep were forward. Trade was good with an overall sale average of 118.09p. Top price per head was pounds 82 for some tremendous Beltex hoggs from Mr R Slade of Inglewood Edge purchased by Mr Mark Lindsay Station Street, Cockermouth. Top price per kilo was 175p for a pen of Beltex hoggs from Messrs Mcmiken of Nether Ernambrie purchased by Mr RJ Harrison (Butcher).
