All 1,000 Ponte Vedra Hotel Rooms Reserved for Super Bowl; Corporate Groups Staying in Resort Area

About a month before Super Bowl XXXIX, it appears the northeast corner of St. Johns County will score big from the impact of thegame.

Glenn Hastings, executive director of the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council, said this weekthat out of about 1,000 hotel rooms in the Ponte Vedra Beach area, every one has been sold out for the four days prior to and the day of the Super Bowl, which will be played Feb. 6 at Jacksonville's Alltel Stadium.

"In terms of the region, you've got some of the finest resorts in the area," Hastings said. "You've got them in Ponte Vedra and Amelia Island; those were perfect for corporations."

Corporate representatives wasted little time in reserving those high-end hotel rooms lining the coast in Ponte Vedra Beach, Hastings said.

He acknowledged the fact that the Marriott Sawgrass is hosting the NFC champions played a key role in boosting interest for visitors wanting to stay in Ponte Vedra Beach. That hotel is already booked for the team, players' families and NFL-related activities.

But places such as the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club were easy draws as well.

"I think the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club has a lot of corporate groups," Hastings said. "I think Ponte Vedra did exceptionally well in terms of the quality of the groups and the events that are going on there."

The elite resorts also will likely draw more private parties from their exclusive guests who want to party in the posh surroundings through the weekend of the Super Bowl.

"In terms of the economics, from what I'm hearing, people are spending on private parties and receptions," Hastings said. "The food and beverage [spending] portion of it is going to be way up. The hotel occupancy is going to be higher than what they would be normally."

The AFC champion team playing in the Super Bowl will be staying at the Renaissance Resort at the World Golf Village. Off Interstate 95 and a separate development unto its own, the areas surrounding the World Golf Village have felt less impact so far, Hastings said.

"Not quite as much. Not in terms of special events and venues that were rented. …
