Hushed Court Hears of Loving Couples' Last Tender Moments

The Old Bailey was hushed yesterday as the last tender moments of a loving couple were described.

Margaret and Brian Blackburn, both 62, had found love late in life ( and hoped to meet up again in heaven.

Mrs Blackburn, in the final stages of stomach cancer, was in constant pain, could not eat or sleep and begged her husband to end her suffering.

Mr Blackburn could not bear to live without her.

His wife begged him to make sure she was dead first so she did not find herself surviving without him there.

She had been a nurse in a hospice and had helped patients sort out their affairs before dying.

In her husband's words, she "wanted it to be over" and not have a protracted and painful death.

After saying goodbye to her two grown-up sons from a previous marriage, Mrs Blackburn begged her husband: "You have got to do something. …
