Although they are the only unbeaten side and are 21 points better off than their opponents, Dunston Federation are wary of today's visitors to Federation Park.

"Horden CW may have gone off the boil recently, but they have a good team and I am sure they will give us a hard game," said Fed secretary Phil Montague.

With Danny Shore suspended, the Fed have doubts surrounding the fitness of Ritchie Pitt, Michael Robson and Stephen Young.

"We do not have a big squad and could be down to the bare bones if the three lads cannot play," Montague said.

Horden have even bigger problems with two sets of brothers ruled out. Lee and Stuart Dixon are banned, while James and Robert Huntley are struggling with injuries. In addition, Alan Martin is suspended and Craig Stephens is struggling to be fit, but Mark Nicholson and Chris Pearson resume.

Newcastle Benfield Saints are equal on points with Dunston Fed for the first time this season after defeating Guisborough Town 4-1 on Tuesday. They have an inferior goals difference, however, and have also played four games more, so victory at home to Thornaby is crucial to their chances of finishing in pole position.

Bedlington Terriers are third, although they have played more games than any of the sides challenging for the championship. They visit Durham City, who will again have Adam Dowell in goal for Paul Gilmore, and Glen Robson is another absentee.

Chester-le-Street host Ashington and are unable to include top scorer Philip Bell, and will also give fitness tests to Gary Shields and Damien Maw. The Cestrians have signed midfielder Anthony March from Dunston Federation and Gary Draper from local football. Draper will join his brother Robbie in the squad.

Ashington manager Ray Gowan is definitely without Alex Lawson and awaits on the fitness of Lee Picton. …
