Robbie savage may have thought the worst was behind him but it would appear the hard work has only just started for Blackburn's new pounds 3m star.

Savage finally completed his protracted move from Birmingham yesterday, with the Wales international midfielder signing a three-and-a-half-year deal ahead of watching his new team-mates take their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 3-2 win over Cardiff.

It was a drawn-out deal that ended "the longest two weeks of my life" according to the 30-year-old who went from "being a hero to becoming the most-hated man in Birmingham".

But enduring the wrath of all connected with the Blues may pale in contrast to his next headache ( proving he is worth the money and all the aggravation that has come with his transfer.

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes, a significant player in Savage's decision to defect, said: "He has a lot to live up to but he is more than capable of doing so.

"He will bring something to us we haven't got in that he is a big personality, on and off the field, and that's important. …
