A Northumberland school has won a pounds 2,000 prize as one of 240 to get a BT Schools Award.

Ellingham CE First School, at Chathill, will use the money to fund its own community project, helping pupils develop their speaking and listening skills and be active citizens.

Schools closed

SOME schools around Carlisle remain closed today because of damage in last week's floods.

It is hoped Crosby-on-Eden School, Kells Infants, St Aidan's and St Mary's in Kells will re-open on Monday. Newman School will be closed for the foreseeable future.

Low flying

THE RAF will carry out low flying to 100ft in the Borders Tactical Training area, north of Hexham, throughout February.
