Transforming the look of Tyneside will be continued by these designs.

Gateshead College chiefs have unveiled what their new pounds 36m campus will look like.

It's due to be built in the Baltic Business Quarter on the Quayside to replace the current college on Durham Road, Low Fell, to be demolished when the new venue is ready.

The new campus is the largest development in the college's relocation programme. It also has new developments on Team Valley for automotive training and Gateshead Stadium for sport.

The Baltic building, designed by Red Box Design Company, will provide 193,000 sq ft of educational space.

College principal, David Cheetham, said: "We are delighted to have received planning consent so we can press ahead with our vision to create a world-class building which will enable us to deliver the cutting edge in learning."

Benefits will include the latest teaching and learning environments, social spaces, better transport links, accessible buildings in line with the Disability Discrimination Act and areas for 14 to 19-year-olds. …
