Don't Step on His Blue Suede Shoes

Article excerpt

I like to think of myself as an easy going sort of a guy and nothing usually riles me, but Kathy Secker's description of Rabid! Elvis Fans was uncalled for.

As a life-long Elvis fan I have never been able to understand the venom directed at an artist that has had 50 years of unparalleled success and brought joy to tens of millions. He has sold more than a billion records and his influences in music and fashion are still felt.

Elvis' latest No1 is over 45 years old and already a multi-million seller but on it re-release is a limited edition.

Having a little chat to my local record store assistant, who informs me the discs are selling out by the night of release and are being bought by all shapes and age of people, none as yet described by him as rabid or dressed in white jump suits.

Kathy, please don't run Elvis fans down. My mum was one, my 18-year-old son, a university student at Leeds College of Music enjoys much of his music and has read about Elvis having a three octave range and hits in rock and roll, country, blues, gospel and ballads with a little Dixieland and jazz thrown in.

CAN your readers to join me and support a very special event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Britain's Biggest Breakfast takes place on March 4, and we are aiming to raise a massive pounds 400,000. But we can't do this without your help.

All you need to do is invite friends, family or colleagues to a breakfast party. If you are not an early riser, there's no need to worry as parties can be held at any time throughout the day. By asking each of your guests for a donation for Cancer Research UK, you'll be making a fantastic contribution to fundraising.
