Despite enjoying an early two goals lead, Cleadon SC failed to make it into the semi- finals of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup when New Marske clinched a seven-goals thriller following extra time.

The Jack Clark Park side made the best possible start scoring through Danny Efford and when Kyle Pendergood added a second goal, Cleadon looked to be on their way.

The Seasiders though hit back with a brace from Ian Johnson to take the tie into additional time when New Marske went 4-2 up through Billy Middleton and Andy Taylor.

There was still time for Stephen Vanes to throw Cleadon a lifeline but despite frenetic efforts in the closing stages, Cleadon made their exit from the competition.

In the only other quarter-final tie to be staged, Stokesley SC romped home against Shotton Comrades.

Michael Pittam cancelled out an early goal by Stokesley but this was Shotton's only respite and it was at the other end where the goals were scored. …
