Faye's Arrival Is a Big Boost for His Injured Pal

Jean Alain Boumsong has welcomed the arrival of his former Auxerre colleague Amdy Faye to Newcastle United ( but admits that this has added to the agony of the hamstring injury he picked up at Arsenal on Sunday.

Senegalese inter-national Faye completed his medical at St James' Park yesterday and joined United on a four year deal from Portsmouth at a cost of pounds 2m.

And one of the first people Faye saw was Boumsong on the treatment table for his hamstring injury ( an injury which will keep him out for at a month at least.

Boumsong put his injury disappointment behind him to tell me: "I played with Amdy Faye at Auxerre for three years and I can say that he is a very good player.

"He is a defensive midfield player and he will bring something we need to the club. I know him very well and I am delighted he is here with me at Newcastle."

Faye is Graeme Souness's third signing along with the pounds 8m Boumsong and Celestine Babayaro, who cost nothing, and the United manager said today: "Amdy is not a spectacular player but he is a player who I believe will do a really good job for us. …
