Orange Park Boys Miss Title by a Shot in Second Overtime

Josemar Cascante's unassisted goal gave the Orange Park High School soccer team a 1-0 halftime lead, but Huston Turner scored on a corner kick and Matt Crowell produced the game-winner in the second of two overtimes to give Pedro Menendez the inaugural St. Johns River Athletic Conference title Tuesday night.

The division champions played to a 1-1 tie earlier in the year, and the second meeting was every bit as close.

Both teams missed on several scoring opportunities, and Sean Lawrence of visiting Orange Park and Chad Herring of Menendez each recorded four saves in goal in the final 40 minutes.

Michael Bross picked up his second hat trick in two games, Devin Tully added a pair of goals and Michael McDonald, Zechariah Townsend and Mark Miller all had one apiece as Middleburg took a 6-0 lead at the half and coasted to its 14th win of the year in a conference tournament game Tuesday. …
