Blaze Destroys Seafood Eatery; Sea Market Seafood in St. Augustine Falls after Closing for the Night

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH -- The roof was left dangling into the charred remains of the family-owned Sea Market Seafood and Restaurant. It is a total loss -- $300,000 in estimated damage, officials said.

"We spent the last 15 years of our lives just about living there," owner Lynne Tiner said Friday.

The restaurant in Seaside Plaza, 4255 Florida A1A S., went up in flames about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Susan Bogart was working late at her office, Bogart Real Estate Services, in the plaza when she heard an explosion. She saw a room-sized ball of fire fly out the door and engulf the restaurant.

"It was kind of surreal," she said. "It looked like the glass was going inward."

Bogart called 911, grabbed her cat and dashed outside.

Sea Market closed at its usual time Thursday, 9 p.m. Employees finished cleaning and had the place locked up about an hour later.

On Friday afternoon, owners Mike and Lynne Tiner stared at the blackened remains of items they collected over 15 years. …
