I feel I must comment on your feature (Surviving On pounds 5 A Week, 2.2.05). It was, to me, an attempt to gain sympathy. As usual when comment is made on this type of subject, there are always cries of "racist", but in my case that is not the case.

I love all God's creatures. I am, however, sick of being told by people that I have got it too good because I have a microwave, clothes and a stock of food. The subject in question was "can a failed asylum seeker survive on pounds 5 and a bag of groceries".

The immigration policy of this Government is abysmal. There really must be a better system put into place, but somewhere down the line in every system there comes a time when some people get turned down for various reasons and must be returned to the country from which they came.

All decisions on individual failed asylum seekers are not brought to our notice, but I can't see in this nanny state society that they cannot find food and shelter until they are processed. …
