Philip Hobbs sends out Gold Medallist for his final Cheltenham Festival prep race at Huntingdon tomorrow and the five-year-old is expected to preserve his unbeaten record.

Gold Medallist was a classy stayer on the Flat, winning the Group Two Prix Kergorlay at Deauville in August when in the care of David Elsworth, and he has translated his form to the jumping game.

He went into many a notebook with an eye-catching display on his debut at Exeter in December, beating Secret Ploy a length and a quarter with some decent horses beaten off a further 23 lengths and more.

That was followed by an emphatic 18-length triumph from Hot Weld at Kempton last month, though the critics sharpened their pencils as he was pushed along when clear in the closing stages.

Gold Medallist could hardly have done more in his new career, however, and he remains a worthy favourite for next month's Royal & Sun Alliance Novices' Hurdle.

Another run should bring him towards the boil for his Festival target and he cannot be opposed in tomorrow's Sidney Banks Memorial Novices' Hurdle. …
