Match of Today; Charles Clarke V David Davis

Charles Clarke v David Davis

Ground: Commons Kick-off: 12.30 CLARKE had a poor start to today's crucial fixture over his plan for "house arrest" for terrorist suspects.

In yesterday's warm-up, he bullied his rivals and seemed more interested in kicking their shins than hoofing his controversial Bill through the goalposts.

By contrast, Tory spokesman Davis was cool and deadly in interviews this morning before their debate. More intriguingly, DD hooked up with Lib-Dem spokesman Mark Oaten to form a joint team for this one match - an alliance that should deeply worry Labour election campaign managers hoping to woo Liberal voters in marginal seats.

Not a good result for the Home Secretary.
