A door was kicked in, television smashed to the floor and windows broken before it was all over early Feb. 11 at a home in the 7600 block of Covewood Drive.

Forty minutes after the damage started, a 24-year-old Southside man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, burglary and criminal mischief after someone with a baseball bat used it while arguing with a 39-year-old resident over money and a missing bicycle, police said.

Police said the destruction started at 4:34 a.m. when a man wielding a bat and handgun came over, kicked in a door and began threatening the victim inside. The man began throwing things at the victim before shoving the television and its table to the ground. The intruder threw a cup and broke a window, all the while threatening the victim with the gun, police said. Then he went outside and smashed two windows on a truck with the bat.

Officers arrived to find the man still there and arrested him. No gun was found, police said.

While police were at the home, an officer noticed the victim's girlfriend had a bruise on her nose and around her left eye. The woman said the boyfriend had hit her over the weekend, a charge the man denied, police said. The woman said she didn't want the man arrested, just removed from the home. But officers arrested the man at 9:50 a.m. and charged him with battery.
