ONCE again when there is some adverse weather, scores of schools close at a moment's notice with faulty heating systems and absent teachers being the common reasons given. Does someone go around removing your washer or pipe the day before? How come other public, or indeed, private services seem to cope? How many hard-pressed working people have had to leave work to accommodate this nonsense? I bet no wages were lost by the teachers during their absence. By the way, in the USA if the school closes for any reason, the days have to be made up in the term, no argument.
