Simon Davison scooped the fish of the week when he caught a cod that weighed in at 17lb from Blyth Pier.

Simon used a cocktail of rag and lug to tempt the fish which was weighed and verified at W Temple of Whitley Bay.

Another good cod of 7 1/2lb was landed by Craig Anderson from the bottom of the cliffs at Newbiggin.

Meanwhile, ragworm bait was the choice of Ray Sanderson and it came up trumps when he caught an excellent whiting of 2lb 10 1/2oz from the pier at Roker.

The North Dock at Sunderland produced a 10lb 7oz cod which was hooked by Chris Hossack using crab and a lower River Wear jetty gave up a 2lb cod for John Stead on lugworm.

The Heugh at Hartlepool fished very well at the weekend with one angler landed a cod of 12lb.

Meanwhile, a small boat out of Newbiggin gill netting only 300-400 yards off shore had five double-figure cod in the nets this week, every one of them had an anglers snapped trace in its mouth. …
