In Derek Holmes, Carlisle boss Paul Simpson may have found the target man to pose a renewed threat in their battle for a play-off position.

The weight he took off Magno Vieira and Karl Hawley was evident as the pair found the time and space to get behind the home defence.

The Carlisle cause will have been helped now that they only have to concentrate on the league, as their flirtation with the FA Trophy is over.

This narrow defeat to one of their play-off rivals was only disappointing in so far as the Cumbrians' vastly improved performance merited at least a replay.

But the sending-off of Simon Grand for a second yellow with 17 minutes left, scuppered a Carlisle revival which had looked on the cards following Woking's 20th-minute goal.

Simpson said: "We've got one thing to concentrate on now and that's the Conference.

"We've got to take the type of football we have played today, but we've got to want to score goals more and get more people into the box. …
