Delays for Passengers as Trains Cancelled

Hundreds of rail commuters faced major disruption this morning as trains were cancelled or delayed due to the bad weather.

Travellers on the East Coast line from Alnmouth to Edinburgh were told to get off at Berwick station.

One rail passenger, Chris Dobson, arrived at Alnmouth station to catch the 7am train to Edinburgh but it was cancelled. He had to wait for the 8.07am service but was then told to get off at Berwick and take buses.

Mr Dobson said: "I had to be in Glasgow for a meeting at 10am but there was no chance of that. Everyone was told to get off at Berwick because trains had stopped running to Edinburgh.

"We had to wait for buses. I couldn't have driven this morning because of the state of roads after snowfall overnight."

A spokesman from GNER said: "There was a signaling problem between Dunbar and Berwick that affected all train services on that line.

"Trains were unable to pass through Berwick and Edinburgh.

"Some services are having to be replaced by coaches until we can resolve the situation. …
