Rockledge Overcomes Jackson in Overtime; O'Neal Scores Game-High 26 Points, but the Tigers Fall 63-60 in Semifinal

After a 36-minute battle Tuesday night, the Jackson girls basketball team saw its hopes of a trip to the regional final end with a 63-60 overtime loss to visiting Rockledge in the Region 2-4A semifinal.

The win in front of a crowd of about 300 advanced the Raiders (23-3) -- who had never made the regionals before -- to the final Saturday.

With 18 seconds to go in regulation, Raiders junior forward Ciara Weaver made a steal at halfcourt and scored to tie the game at 55 and force overtime.

"It was a very close game. I just felt that we needed that steal, so I went for it," Weaver said. "It was kinda shaky, but I made the layup and we just pulled it out as a team."

Earlier in the game, the Tigers (18-4) fought back from a six-point (26-20) halftime deficit to turn the tables and take a six-point (40-34) third-quarter lead.

Two strategy changes and solid inside shooting helped change the momentum, Tigers coach Michael Jackson said. …
