Having read the comments from DJ, of Lobley Hill, in this column I have to say that I don't think it is unreasonable for someone to expect to be able to park at their place of work. The Freeman may not be in Outer Mongolia but staff do travel from all parts of the North East to get to it. The hospital may be well-served by public transport but why catch a bus, maybe two or three buses, when you have perfectly good transport at your front door? Before you ask, no I am not employed by the hospital and I am not a public service employee.

I HAVE just read tonight's Evening Chronicle and I would just like to correct TH, that yes Bobby Robson is a Freeman of the City but he is actually being made a non-Freeman of the city which doesn't give him any rights to graze cattle at all. And I know this for a fact because I actually come from a family of hereditary Freemen and people in general aren't of the assumption that honorary Freemen get all the things that go with being hereditary Freemen, which isn't true. …
