Mitchell King of Cod with Blyth Spirit

Although in general catches have dropped dramatically, a few anglers have still found fish in rough conditions.

What a night it was for 15-year-old Mitchell Fawcus of Blyth when he fished from Blyth Pier with a good sea running.

Using lugworm and razor fish cocktails, on his second cast he took a personal best cod of 8lb, then on consecutive casts he took fish of 7lb 8oz, 6lb and a tiddler of 2lb 8oz.

All the fish caught were full of sandeels. However, in general catches from the pier have certainly dropped with many anglers not getting a bite.

Tynemouth pier gave Gary Kislingbury a nice bag of fish in Longbenton and Seaton Burns match, his five cod along with a few whiting totalled 29lb 8oz, including two cod of 6lb 10oz and one of 5lb 14oz.

Typical for Tynemouth pier, other clubs using the venue have reported few fish being taken. Newbiggin can always be relied upon to give up a few decent fish with a good sea running. …
