A Teesside school team have fallen at the final hurdle in their bid to repeat Boro's success last season and get to a big final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

The youngsters from Sacred Heart RC Primary in Middlesbrough did brilliantly to reach the four-team Northern final of the Kellogg's Frosties Cup - played at Scunthorpe United's Glanford Park yesterday.

But despite being unbeaten with two wins and a draw against teams from Stockport, Chesterfield and Wigan, the lads were pipped at the post.

The Stockport team were declared winners with a slightly better goal difference and so will take their place in the national final against the Southern champions in Cardiff before the LDV Vans Trophy final.

Even so, the Sacred Heart youngsters have done the area proud and Boro stars, including Franck Queudrue, broke off from preparing for tomorrow's big UEFA Cup clash in Lisbon to congratulate the team.

Sacred Heart were aiming to make it a Teesside double in the competition, which was won last year by Nunthorpe-based The Avenue Primary School, who ran out at the Millennium Stadium just a few weeks after Boro had lifted the Carling Cup. …
