Jermaine jenas relished England's World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan, having played his part in Newcastle United's turnaround since the last international break.

The Magpies' eight-game winning streak came to an end against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday, with Gateshead-born Steve Stone canceling out Kieron Dyer's opener.

After the game Jenas and Dyer linked up with their England team-mates ahead of Saturday's game against Northern Ireland at Old Trafford, while those United players not on international duty headed off for another team- building trip in Dubai.

Before the last international break Souness' team were booed off the pitch after a 1-1 draw against Charlton Athletic.

On their return from international duty and Dubai, United went on to set up their FA Cup semi and UEFA Cup quarter finals.

"It's been a long, long couple of months with a lot of important games and you don't realise sometimes how much it takes it out of you," said Jenas. …
