Residents are calling for action after flower beds were left empty for almost a year.

Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Councillor Vera Rider said she is disappointed by the lack of plants in flower beds near shops at Kilbridge Close, New Marske.

She said people in the area hope to set up a New Marske In Bloom group and they would be willing to help nurture any plants put into the empty beds.

Redcar and Cleveland Council has now sent out an assurance that having focused time on tackling problems associated with anti-social behaviour, they are now turning their attention to making the area greener.

Cllr Rider said: "All along the front of the shops there are flower beds, but they are without any flowers or plants.

"We met with the borough council a year ago to discuss it but since then nothing has been done. We've still got concrete flower beds filled with mud and nothing else. We just want to see things get moving. …
