A Flying Start as Hury Is Buzzing

Northumbrian Water's Prime fly fishery Hury Reservoir got off to a flying start at the weekend with a rod average of 4.82 fish per angler.

Fish were rising to hatching buzzers and over 40 limit bags were recorded over the weekend by happy fly anglers.

For the bait and fly anglers at Fontburn Reservoir, sport was brilliant with 276 anglers catching a massive 1,554 trout.

Jamie Turner of Whitley Bay bagged a cracking rainbow of 12lb 4oz on float fished worm and no fewer than 90 eight-fish limit bags were taken at the weekend.

Other reservoirs also got off to a fine start and local stillwaters provided some heavyweight rainbows this week.

It was the Doxford Lake at Sharpley Springs that produced a massive rainbow of 22lb for Simon Bird from Whitley Bay, while David Mossman from Seaham bagged a 20lb rainbow caught on a Bloodworm.

Up at Langley Dam, an 18lb rainbow was caught by B Wilson, while at Jubilee that man Blythe Palmer of South Shields was at it again, landing a cracking rainbow of 17lb 12oz, his 200th double figure rainbow. …
