A team of youngsters from King's Manor School, Middlesbrough, have won the Year 9 boys Cleveland schools tournament.

The event was staged at Egglescliffe School and King's Manor fielded a strong squad including four county players.

Eight schools participated and they were divided into two round-robin groups.

The King's Manor team won all three of their matches. The first was against Our Lady of St Bede A team, where Andrew King scored from a short corner and Lewis Upton scored in open play.

In the second game, King's Manor won 4-0, with Liam Doak scoring a hat-trick and Andrew Robson netting his first of the tournament.

The third and final game of the league was against Our Lady of St Bede B team. It finished 3-0 with King scoring two and Upton adding his second of the tournament to put King's Manor top of their group.

The semi-final match was against Richmond School, and King's Manor played well to gain a 2-0 win, with goals from Robson and Charlie Francis. …
