Spring is near, and that means . . . so is the Clay County Fair.

New to the fair, which is scheduled March 31 to April 9, will be the Royal Lipizzan Stallions and an exotic animals show called "Amazing Animal Adventure."

Country music singers Ronnie Milsap and Aaron Tippin top the entertainment schedule, which includes bluegrass musicians Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Briar Pickers and Southern Lite; girl band Cowboy Crush; area performers Thermal Image, Danielle Lauderdale; and area gospel singers Rachael Renee and Heart's Desire. The winner of a talent show will be the opening act for Tippin, the author and singer of Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly, who is scheduled to sing on Saturday, April 9, at 8 p.m. Milsap, who's had 40 No. 1 records, will perform on Thursday, April 7, at 8 p.m.

The usual unusual acts include a hypnotist and magician, pig races and a petting zoo. And the staples will be there, too: midway rides, horse shows, arts and crafts displays and sales, and food sales, with vendors coming from as far away as Missouri and Indiana, New York and Maryland -- and a mechanical bull from Wyoming.

Hours are 4 to 11 p.m. March 31 and April 4 to 7; 10 a.m. to midnight April 1, 2 and 9, noon to 9 p.m. April 3 and noon to midnight April 8.

General admission is $7 for adults, $4 for seniors (age 65 and up) and children between the ages of 6 and 15 and free for children younger than 6. Special offers on admission also are planned.

On opening night, the first 500 people to give two unopened canned goods before 4:30 p.m. will be admitted free. After 5:30 p.m., anyone giving two unopened canned goods will receive $1 off regular admission. All food will be donated to the Green Cove Springs Food Pantry.

On April 1, students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be admitted for $2 off the regular admission price from 10 a. …
