There has always been some confusion over the Government's job creation policies ( and a new report out today simply underlines this fact.

In a nutshell, the Government's stance has always been that there are jobs available ( it is the skills to do them that are lacking.

Today's report by the left-wing "think tank" IPPR comes to a very different conclusion.

It states that there are simply not enough jobs in the region in the first place.

The fact is that neither argument is entirely correct and the truth of the matter lies somewhere between the two.

It is also a fact that this "truth" will differ from areas to area geographically within the region and from one sphere of commercial activity to another.

There are very few jobs in some industries and plenty in others.

There are ample job opportunities in some parts of the region, very few in others.

Some skills are in very short supply, but others are easier for employers to find. …
