aspiring writers throughout the region have been awarded funds to finish their masterpieces in the making thanks to Gateshead's New Writing North.

The writing agency last night announced the batch of deserving writers to be awarded bursaries and grants in this year's Northern Writers Awards.

Unlike any other prize, The Northern Writers Awards are not given to a finished piece of work, but are awarded to writers who have a chance of being published in the future to allow them time to write undistracted by ordinary life.

Three Time to Write Awards worth pounds 3,000 were given to novelist Chaz Brenchley correct, poet Peter Armstrong and writer Sue Frost.

Chaz Brenchley has had nine thrillers published as well as the popular fantasy series The Books of Outremer correct and is currently working on a series of novellas entitled Confidence, set in the brothels of Taipei correct.

Cognitive behavioural therapist and poet Peter Armstrong will use the funds to complete two new collections of poetry while Sue Frost will be developing her fourth novel, SALT. …
