NICOLA HORLICK told today how she defied a gunman in a mugging outside her home.

A handgun was pushed into her stomach and she was pistol-whipped across the back of the head but she refused to hand over any valuables.

The man threatened to shoot her, saying: "Give me your jewellery or you will die."

Ms Horlick, 43, nicknamed Superwoman because of her ability to run a City business while raising a family, said: "I just felt angry, not afraid."

She threw her [pounds sterling]50,000 sapphire ring into bushes nearby so the gunman and his accomplice could not get it.

Ms Horlick then told them the ring had fallen into the gutter and asked them to help her find it. The men fled empty handed after she pretended that her husband was parking a car across the road.

A close friend said: "It was terrifying, she could have died, but Nicola lived up to her Superwoman reputation and refused to give in."

Ms Horlick, a mother of five, was attacked outside her [pounds sterling]5 million home in South Kensington at about 8.30pm yesterday. Her children were inside at the time.

She said: "I just parked my car and was walking over the road to the door when this man in a motorbike helmet got off the back of a scooter and ran towards me. He said, 'Lady, give me your ring. I've got a gun, I am going to shoot you if you don't give me all your jewellery'. He pushed the gun against my stomach and said, 'This is metal, it is real. I could shoot you but I am just going to hit you'.

"There was no way I was giving him my ring so I stood there in front of him without saying anything, which seemed to panic him.

"He threatened me again but I did nothing, then he hit me with the butt of his gun against the back of my head. It hurt a lot and knocked me to the ground but I still felt only fury. …
