I feel strongly Labour has let down the North East and I am keen to promote Conservative values.

I will fight for cleaner hospitals, school discipline, more police on our streets, lower taxes and accountability. I also feel that business is becoming stifled by the huge amount of red-tape - 15 pieces per day for each day this Government has been in power.

A big issue I am coming across in Newcastle is 24-hour drinking. I believe we need to get a balance between pubs and clubs being able to operate successfully and maintaining a decent quality of life for local residents.

This election is about trust: many people say they no longer trust Tony Blair.

On Iraq and student fees, Blair misled the voters. He puts targets ahead of patients, ID cards ahead of more police, means-testing ahead of better pensions and care for the elderly. On these issues, and others like the environment, the Liberal Democrats offer a real alternative.

Newcastle doesn't have to put up with being taken for granted by a government which governs in the interests of the South East. Everyone knows the Conservatives can't win here, while the Lib Dems have shown we can. With your support, we can win here.
