Lorraine Promises a Warm Reception

Lorraine Smith, reception manager at The Tulip Inn Newcastle Gateshead on the Team Valley, has been rushed off her feet since the hotel opened last October.

The 32-year-old, who lives with her boyfriend in Newcastle, is responsible for all the reception duties such as checking in and out guests, taking reservations, operating the switchboard, dealing with queries and ensuring the smooth running of the front office department.

She also does duty management shifts giving her overall responsibility for the hotel, ensuring that all departments are fully staffed, looking after guests as well as serving in the bar and restaurant.

Said Lorraine: "I really enjoy the customer contact. I like to see our guests go away happy after having an enjoyable stay and the team work atmosphere is great.

"The thing I like least is it can be quite tiring being on your feet all day and some days are just non-stop activity."

A typical working day for Lorraine is around nine to 10 hours and she works on any of the three shifts; 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm and 11pm-7am. …
